Song of the day: The Last Hill That Shows You All The Valley
Pete Atkin
"The Last Hill That Shows You All The Valley"
1974
A relatively obscure British singer-songwriter who recorded several albums in the early seventies and still is out there doing his thing today. His look was extremely un-hip but nowadays, thankfully, this can be overlooked easily. Although I still think you will not be cool brining up Pete Atkin at your next kegger.
This songs lyrics were written by Clive James (arguably looking very un-hip too - Ed.) and according to Wikipedia: Often Atkin turned James' intentions upside down, as with "The Last Hill That Shows You All The Valley", which James wrote as a dirge but which Atkin set to a thumping, angry rock beat. The combination worked as James' mournful cataloguing of man's inhumanity to man became a cry of protest.
It does in fact have an awesome rock groove and simple but powerful bass lines - combined with the lyrics and delivery, a very inspiring and inspired track to my ears.
Note: Song should auto-play in player at the top of this page!
